Rules For Writing Effective Titles

Category : Article Marketing Tips, Writing Articles

Every internet marketer will admit that quality content will drive targeted traffic to a website. How do you capture the readers that will follow the links in your article, though? Writing titles that convey the feeling that your article offers the information that they are looking for; that is how. Even for experienced writers, writing titles can be more of a challenge than the content that has to follow. There are three key elements that have to be in every title that you write. Those keys are below.

The Keys To Writing Powerful Titles

Writing titles can be a challenge. You have one sentence to capture a reader’s attention. Here are three important keys to writing titles:

  • Keyword insertion
  • Make an offer
  • Leave an air of mystery

All that in a short five to ten word sentence? Yes, all of that and more if possible. Each key has to be used in conjunction with the others in order for a title to be truly successful. Experience has shown many authors that the title will not be effective if you do not understand your product. In a sense, everything is important to the title and the title is the key to everything.

Keyword Insertion

Your primary keyword has to be part of the title, but cannot be the title itself. From an SEO stand point, you could let the keyword stand alone, but human readers need a little more meat on the bone in order to bite. If you are able to put together a title that includes your primary and a long-tail keyword, you are even farther along in the game. Success lies in making the title readable and natural.

Make An Offer

A huge part of writing titles that will catch a reader’s eye is to make an offer that they are interested in. That is where leaving the keyword to stand alone falls short. When researching a personal injury attorney, you would obviously type in ‘personal injury attorney’, but would you read an article with the title Personal Injury Attorney? The average reader will be looking for help in some way, so titles like ‘How To Choose A Personal Injury Attorney’ or ’3 Tips For Finding The Right Personal Injury Attorney’ are very effective ways of getting your article read more often.

Writing Titles With An Air Of Mystery

You cannot spill the beans when writing titles. Your readers have to feel intrigued, so you must leave them guessing to some extent. You want them to finish the entire article and follow the link at the end. It is like a horror movie. You know someone is going to die, but whom and how, these are the reasons you keep watching.

Writing titles can be the key to gaining more frequent targeted traffic to your website. The title will gain your article a glance, so you must continue to deliver from the introduction to the call to action in the summary. Writing titles that follow the keys in this article will get them to your article; it is up to you to keep them reading.

A Few More Tips For Writing Catchy Titles

  1. If you opt to use just one word or a phrase, find synonyms of that word that is catchier than your original word choice. It should have punch; it should hit something in your target readers. It can be their emotions, their interests, their job, or their current status.
  2. The length of your title should not be too long to give out too much information, or too short to leave them at a daze. In the length that you choose, just always be sure that you don’t forget the punch or the catchy factor.
  3. In choosing words for your title, you may try playing on words, perhaps putting together terms that may or may not make sense. Try to be witty, funny, and playful, but remember not to deviate from what your written material is actually about.
  4. If all else fails, the simpler the title, the better. Sometimes, the most basic of words can arouse the interest of any reader, can make them browse the article length or flip through more pages.
